Kevin McIlvoy in Virtual Conversation with Scott Gould

Hub City Bookshop is hosting a virtual conversation with Kevin McIlvoy and Scott Gould on Thursday, June 3rd, at 7PM! Of his seven other published books, Kevin McIlvoy considers his new novel, One Kind Favor, to be one of his most important works. Joining him in conversation will be award-winning author of Things that Crash, Things that Fly, Scott Gould! Register here.

Kevin McIlvoy is the author of seven previous books: five novels, a book of short stories, and a book of prose poetry. A retired Regents Professor of Creative Writing from New Mexico State University, he teaches at the Warren Wilson College MFA Program in Creative Writing. His short fiction has appeared in Harper’s, Southern Review, Ploughshares, Missouri Review, and other literary magazines. He has been a manuscript consultant for University of Nevada Press, University of Arizona Press, University of New Mexico Press, Indiana State University Press, University of Missouri Press, Orison Books, and other publishers. He lives in Asheville, North Carolina.

Scott Gould was born, raised and still lives in South Carolina. His first book, Strangers to Temptation—a linked story collection the Atlanta Journal Constitution called “a compulsive read” and Foreward Reviews dubbed “funny, often poignant, and not easily forgotten”—was published by Hub City Press in 2017. Of his debut novel, Whereabouts (Koehler Books), the Atlanta Journal Constitution said, the book is “distinctly Southern but gritty, without a whiff of moonlight and magnolias.” Gould’s memoir, Things That Crash, Things That Fly (Vine Leaves Press), was released in March of 2021, and his next book, the story collection Idiot Men, will be published by Springer Mountain Press in August of 2021. A new novel, The Hammerhead Chronicles, will be published by the University of North Georgia Press in February of 2022.

Virtual In-Conversation with Scott Gould & Justin Gardiner

On Tuesday, April 27 at 6pm Auburn Oil Company Booksellers is hosting an In Conversation event with Scott Gould about his new memoir, Things that Crash, Things that Fly.  It’s a book about many things: lost love, daughters and fathers, evaporating marriage, Italian sandals, friendship, bad knees, acrobatic birds, secrecy, oddly placed piercings…but most of all, Gould’s inventive memoir is about how it’s truly possible to rise and soar, even after you’ve struck the ground.

The conversation will be facilitated by Justin Gardiner, Assistant Professor in the Department of English at Auburn University and author in his own right.  It’s free!  Register here.
